Welcome

To

Myalup...

Undulating white sands and safe family swimming make this coastal resort a popular spot. Situated 21 km south west of Harvey off the Old Coast Road, Myalup is a small, peaceful place with a population of 120 full time residents. The name comes from the aboriginal word “Mya” meaning paperbark tree. These distinctive and beautiful trees abound in the area.

Myalup is a coastal hamlet of the Harvey district and located some 155km south of Perth and 40km north of Bunbury, 3 km off the Perth to Bunbury highway.

Myalup lies at the southern edge of the pristine Yalgorup National Park, a haven to native wildlife and a bird sanctuary. The Park is also known for its stromatolites - sedimentary rocks comprised of layers of fossilised blue-green algae, and one of the first life forms known to exist on earth.
Lake Preston, which is the largest of 9 lakes within the Yalgorup National Park also boarders the town. (click here to view pictures)

Facilities in the town include a recreation ground (with tennis court, grassed area, 1/2 basket ball court, children's play ground, public toilets and BBQ facilities), general store, caravan park & challets to accommodate some 450 people, Myalup Pines (being self contained accommodation, contact the Harvey Visitor Centre for further information)  an active community association & volunteer fire brigade and an interpretive sign at the entrance to Yalgorup National Park. The Myalup service station is located on the highway next to a local custom made furniture wood working work shop.

Myalup is renowned for its excellent beach fishing and pristine beaches and offers abundant opportunities for swimming, trail walks, biking, canoeing & kayaking, birdwatching and relaxing. Myalup is also close to local vineyards and fruit growers.

Myalup is also home to award winning local singer song-writer Jeff Bruce-McGinn, who has recorded a song about Myalup. You can click here to download and listen to his song titled, "Myalup (So good to come home)".
